Is Reading an Ability or a Skill?

26 August 2009 2 Comments

“Books of all time, books of an hour” was what we heard our teachers say a couple of decades ago. But now in the age of technology will our children be able to understand this and judge books accordingly? The present generation has many options to keep themselves engaged.

Consequently, reading habits among children are on the decline, in part thanks to the television and the computer. Research in western countries over the last 50 years has indicated a fall in the reading habits of children, though there are country-to-country variations.

the writer is right in saying that children these days prefer watching television or going out but reading is still the first and foremost type of hobby that gives the reader immense pleasure.Parents do need to develop a habit of reading right from the start…if they go to doctor for the monthly checks, take a nice picture book along so that while waiting the child is busy and not disturbing others as well as not anxious what is going to happen in the doctor’s clinic. All kinds of books are available these days…for boys, for girls..mystery,adventure,social, moral values, educational, fairy tales,real-life stories…a vast collection and we have to make sure our children choose the best and enjoy reading….
Ir is our duty to develop this sense of reading ,it is good for the child in all the ways.
