Most students in middle and high school opt for Sanskrit as a language option because it is easy to score full marks in it. This could be at the behest of friends or parents and others. It is a pity that Sanskrit should become merely a medium for marks and that the larger role it plays in our lives is completely sidelined.
In the age of the silicon chip it is not surprising that the top of mind image of Sanskrit among children is to do with marks. We cannot expect students to relate to it as the language of gods or hope to get them excited with esoteric adjectives like classical, divine and sacred language.
